President’s Annual Letter

Future Hope International (FHI) had another busy year in 2023, working on all our strategic goals to provide a diverse range of activities that focus on rehabilitation and care, advocacy, improving health outcomes and in emergencies, promoting inclusion, governance, social, educational, economic, and livelihoods, and ensuring equitable, accessible, and quality services for street children, orphans, disadvantaged elderly women and men, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

I gained a deep awareness of the issues and needs affecting impoverished and deprived areas as a result of my experience in a variety of community service positions, as well as the potential roles that NGOs may play in eradicating poverty.

In addition to our core work of improving the welfare of rural folks, FHI staff have convened or participated in a range of meetings and networks related to our programs and deepened our collaboration with other funders to leverage resources and move forward shared agendas. In 2013, we also organized our eighth staff retreat and completed multi-year reviews of four of our programs. All these efforts have helped us assess the past as well as reflect on the future of the organization.

We know that many of our partners, donors, supporters, and members have spent considerable time and energy reading the multi-year review reports, for which we are grateful. Supporters appreciate the knowledge and responsiveness of FHI’s staff, our dedication to contentious, frequently under-funded areas, our willingness to take risks on new and untested ideas, and our capacity to reach out to more vulnerable communities.

As in previous years, 2022 offered opportunities and challenges in all our program areas. Our responses to those opportunities and challenges varied across situations and programs but always reflected our core commitment to improving the lives of the most disadvantaged in society.

FHI is an ambitious and growing organization that is evolving to meet the changing needs of the deprived in society. Our track record since the 2000s speaks for itself. At the same time, we are not complacent about the challenges faced by the poor today and know that we still have much to do to contribute to poverty reduction in the poor communities where we work in Ghana.

On a more personal note, I want to thank all our staff, volunteers, and supporters for their commitment and hard work. Many FHI’s staff and volunteers work in difficult and often dangerous circumstances to make a difference for the vulnerable in society. We carry on our vital work in Ghana while continuing to keep our staff and volunteers as safe as possible because poor people can’t wait.

Despite the financial turmoil in the world’s markets with severe knock-on effects for the economies of both developed and developing countries, we continue to operate. FHI is confident that it will continue to expand, fulfilling its role as one of the key international human-centered organizations working to improve lives, particularly among the vulnerable in society.

Thanks a lot for your generous support.
