Improving the Quality of Education and Learning Outcomes
Improving learning outcomes and skill acquisition have also been highlighted as key requirements for development by the World Bank in their current World Development Report. This report sheds light on the learning crisis that prevails in many developing countries where children are completing primary school without acquiring the basic skills required for further education like numeracy and literacy.
The main goal of our education program is to improve the lives of extremely poor children in a sustainable way in the Agotime Ziope District, by increasing their access to quality primary education and supporting wellbeing.
At least 250 million school-age children worldwide currently do not know the basics in reading and mathematics. This poor level of literacy and numeracy drives school dropout and blocks students from progressing in their education.
In order to accurately assess, improve and monitor literacy levels, FHI is widely using the sector-leading Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) tool among the most vulnerable communities in the Agotime Ziope District.
Community structures are integral to our education programmes. Community members have a significant role to play in the wellbeing and overall improvement of the schools that are part of their community.
In order to ensure that schools are able to continue to function and meet the needs of children and adolescents, functional Community Based School Management Committees are vital. We work to support and strengthen Community Based School Management Committees so that they can sustainably support the functioning of the school to maintain access for all.
