Biakoye District
Our work helps improve food and nutrition security by agriculture and food production, enhancing farmers’ resilience to climate change, and building their capacities in sustainable agriculture techniques. Our work in the district also contributes to women’s empowerment.
Our Work Across the District
Food and Nutrition Security and Resilience to Climate Change Program
Unpredictable rainfall and ascending temperatures are jeopardising agricultural yields and putting people’s food and nutrition security at risk. In 2016, climate resilience was integrated across 30% of FHI’s long-term development projects in the Biakoye District. FHI is committed to helping five thousand poor and vulnerable people in the District increase their food and nutrition security and their resilience to climate change by 2028.
Women’s Empowerment Program
Through the Women’s Empowerment Program, FHI works in the Biakoye District in the Oti Region to create economic opportunities for women and enhance their inclusion and participation by increasing their skills and knowledge and enhancing their self-employment/entrepreneurship potential to improve their livelihoods.
Enabling Smallholder Farmers’ Easy Access to Agro-Inputs
Recognizing the lack of reliable agricultural suppliers, high costs, and the prevalence of counterfeit products that pose obstacles for farmers in the Biakoye District, FHI since 2022 has been working in the Biakoye District to enable smallholder farmers’ access to quality agricultural inputs. The program is aimed at promoting public-private partnerships and improving market access.
