Ho Municipal District
Advocating with Decision Makers in Support of Children and the Vulnerable
Before we started operating in the Ho Municipal, in many of the communities, the relationship between the local government and citizens was broken. Despite the local government commitments and budgets that should guarantee essential services to families, the reality was different. For example, local health clinics lacked basic drugs, and nurses and doctors were not attending the clinic as they should (potentially leading to the chronic illness and death of community members); or local primary schools lacked basic equipment and resources and may be overcrowded.
Working in the Ho Municipal in the Volta Region since 2015, FHI seeks to create space for vulnerable children and women. The goal is to improve care for the vulnerable in society. FHI mobilizes and equips citizens in the Ho Municipal with the knowledge and skills to monitor local government services and facilitates an advocacy methodology that results in the improvement of inadequate government-provided services for the vulnerable.
FHI often employs this methodology as a component of other projects to improve relevant government services for the well-being of women and vulnerable children. Key services, such as health and education, are delivered effectively and contribute towards the well-being of children and women, due to the impact of this program in improving relationships between citizens, local government, and service providers operating in the Ho Municipal.
