Wednesday, July 17, 2024
Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC), a US-based organization, announced today the launch of a new health program to donate medical supplies and equipment to improve health services in rural communities in Agotime District in the Volta Region valued at $50,000 USD.
The donated medical equipment, which includes face masks, cardiotocography monitors, autoclaves, phototherapy machines, digital blood pressure monitors, delivery beds, and infant meters, aims to enhance maternal healthcare services in the Agotime District, aligning with the goal of achieving universal health coverage, particularly to benefit persons with disabilities (PWDs).
During the handover ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FHI, Mr. John Incoom, stated that the donation was informed by feedback from the community members through the project’s experience of care survey. He emphasized FHI’s commitment to re-equipping health facilities to improve the quality of maternal and newborn services.
Dr. John Tampory, Director of the Family Health Division, expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that it addresses a critical need in these health facilities. He also mentioned that while health facilities are equipped, periodic replacement of some equipment is necessary. Dr. John Tampory assured that the donated items will be used effectively for their intended purposes at the designated facilities.
The Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC), USA, and the Future hope international (FHI) are working together to improve the capacity and quality of health care in Agotime District. These projects reduce District’s maternal and child mortality, protect communities from malaria, improve access to family planning, ensure a reliable supply chain of vital health care supplies and medications.
The program will continue for a minimum of three years to ensure reliable and continuous supply to other hospitals in the district. In addition to donation, FODAC has made a cash donation to FHI to cover the costs of administering the program.
